Community Exercise

The Community Exercise programme aims to get as many people in Tameside active to promote good health and wellbeing. This includes community walks, bike rides, running clubs and activities such as walking football and even Tai Chi. There are many benefits to getting active and exercising with other people including:

Physical

Exercise can give you more energy and help to maintain a healthy weight. People who exercise regularly are also at a much lower risk for many illnesses including heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Mental

Being physically active in whatever way you are able is one of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing and can help with health and happiness. It can help to boost self-esteem and confidence as well as reduce stress and help with mood and sleep patterns.

Social

Exercising in groups can reduce social isolation as you meet new people and make new friends with a shared goal. You may even find you have other things in common too!

Motivation

Exercising with others can be a real motivation boost as you encourage each other to do your best and attend regularly. As sessions are often led group exercise also creates a safe environment where you can learn the best way to stay active for you.
